Focus on service life: Key selection criteria for electric butterfly valves to minimize wear and tear.

In the long-term application of electric butterfly valves, focusing on their service life and prioritizing models made of high-quality materials and with exquisite craftsmanship is a core prerequisite for reducing component wear, avoiding frequent equipment replacement, and lowering long-term operating costs.

Neglecting material and manufacturing quality and choosing inferior electric butterfly valves will lead to numerous shortcomings in their service life – for example, if the valve body uses ordinary cast iron instead of ductile iron, it will be prone to corrosion and perforation due to long-term exposure to the medium; if the valve stem sealing process is crude, wear will quickly lead to media leakage. An electric butterfly valve that should last 5 years might need to be replaced entirely within 1-2 years, not only increasing equipment procurement costs but also affecting the continuous operation of the system due to frequent downtime for maintenance. By focusing on the service life of electric butterfly valves and choosing those made of high-quality materials and with exquisite craftsmanship, component wear can be reduced, extending the overall service life of the electric butterfly valve. This is a key principle for ensuring the long-term stable operation of electric butterfly valves and improving their cost-effectiveness. The service life of an electric butterfly valve directly depends on the wear resistance of the materials and the precision of the manufacturing process. High-quality materials and exquisite craftsmanship can reduce wear from the source. Therefore, selecting products of corresponding quality based on service life requirements is a crucial aspect of electric butterfly valve selection that cannot be overlooked.

To ensure a long service life for electric butterfly valves, attention must be paid to material selection, manufacturing standards, and selection verification.
High-quality materials are fundamental to extending service life:
The valve body should preferably be made of ductile iron (QT450-10) or 304/316 stainless steel. Ductile iron offers better impact resistance and corrosion resistance than ordinary cast iron and can withstand long-term media erosion; 304/316 stainless steel is suitable for corrosive media environments and prevents the valve body from being corroded by acids and alkalis. The valve stem and disc require high-strength materials. For example, the valve stem can be made of 2Cr13 stainless steel (with chrome plating on the surface to improve wear resistance), the soft sealing surface of the valve disc should use aging-resistant EPDM rubber or PTFE (which can withstand more than 100,000 opening and closing cycles), and the hard sealing surface should use hard alloy overlay welding (such as STL alloy, which improves wear resistance by more than 3 times).

Exquisite craftsmanship is key to reducing wear:
Valve body processing must comply with the GB/T 12238-2008 standard, and the roughness of the sealing surface must be less than Ra0.8μm to avoid increased local wear due to uneven surfaces; the clearance between the valve stem and the packing gland should be controlled between 0.05-0.1mm to ensure flexible opening and closing while reducing friction loss; the assembly of the motor and actuator requires precise calibration to ensure stable output torque and avoid additional wear of parts due to transmission deviations.

During selection verification, two details require particular attention:
First, require the manufacturer to provide material test reports to confirm the material composition of key components such as the valve body and valve stem (e.g., "Valve body material QT450-10, compliant with GB/T 1348-2009");
Second, check the manufacturing details, observe whether the sealing surface is smooth and free of scratches, and whether the parts are securely connected without looseness. Prioritize brand products that have passed ISO 9001 quality system certification.

In addition, some electric butterfly valves are equipped with wear compensation structures (such as adjustable valve seats and self-lubricating bearings), which can further slow down the wear rate. When selecting, prioritize models with these enhanced designs. In short, materials and manufacturing processes are the "core foundation" for extending the service life of electric butterfly valves. By focusing on the service life of electric butterfly valves and selecting products with superior materials and exquisite craftsmanship, it is possible to ensure that electric butterfly valves have reliable media control capabilities in industrial, municipal, and civil applications. This also reduces component wear, extends the service life, lowers long-term maintenance costs, and provides strong support for the continuous and efficient operation of pipeline systems.
